Disability-Housing Grants for Single Mothers

Disability-Housing Grants for Single Mothers
Single mothers have the formidable task of balancing their workload at home and meeting the demands of their job since they have to care for their family all on their own. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program helps women and children, living below the Federal Poverty Level, get adequate nourishment. The program ensures that pregnant and postpartum women and infants and children up to age of 5, can receive checks or food coupons to purchase foods rich in one or more nutrients, viz. protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C. In addition to WIC, the Temporary Assistance To Needy Families Grant (or TANF Grant) helps women take care of children in the comfort of their home and promotes work related opportunities to minimize the dependence of families on government benefits. In addition to these programs, the Federal Government has also instituted housing grants for single mothers. These grants are disbursed to state governments and non-profits who use the funds to provide housing assistance to women.
Federal Housing Grants for Single Mothers
Low-income Families
The Federal Govt. allows women, whose annual household income is less than 50% of the median income for the county or the metropolitan area where they are residing, to receive housing vouchers that are administered locally by public housing agencies (PHAs). Women can choose where they would like to reside and pay the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount of subsidy paid by the PHA in lieu of the voucher. Women may also be allowed to purchase the rental home provided the rental unit measures up to PHA standards. These housing vouchers are distributed by a network of 2,400 local, state and regional housing agencies. Today, nearly 2 million low-income families have vouchers. These vouchers may also be used to pay the rent for a home that is currently occupied by the single mothers. It's believed that nearly 54 percent of the vouchers are being used by families with children, 19 percent by people with disabilities over the age of 62 and 17 percent by the elderly.
The government also administers federal aid to the PHAs so that they can maintain, plan and develop public housing units. Today, there are 3300 PHAs that provide accommodation to nearly 1.2 million households. Women who are interested in publicly owned homes should contact the PHAs for further details.
Women can apply for privately owned subsidized housing by visiting the website of the HUD and searching for subsidized private homes. In case of subsidized apartments/homes, the landlords are the direct recipients of the Federal Grant that aims to subsidize housing for people from low income families and for those with disabilities. In general, women whose household income is less than 80 percent of the income of the county where they are residing are eligible to live in privately owned subsidized homes.
Women with Disabilities
Shelter Plus Care Program grants are used for providing Tenant-based Rental Assistance (TRA), Sponsor-based Rental Assistance (SRA), Project-based Rental Assistance with (PRAW) or without rehabilitation (PRA) and Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation Program for Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Dwellings. These are meant for people with disabilities so that they can receive shelter and supportive services on a long-term basis. Although, housing grants can help women tide over difficult times, women should not rely solely on Federal Aid, rather, they should ensure that they become self-sufficient so that they can provide for their family all on their own.

Grants for Disabled Adults

Grants for Disabled Adults

However, the Government review of all benefits, changes to eligibility criteria and the introduction of different methods of assessment is shaking the security of many disabled adults.

This together with cuts in local services and the increased cost of living is worrying many of us about the extra cost of being disabled.

Questions are being asked about how to maintain independence, pay for care, keep a job, fund old age......without the extra funds and support.

Not everyone will need extra help and some may not like to accept money from trusts and charities. It all depends on your own situation.

But the fact is, many are looking at grants to fund essentials for everyday life such as medical equipment, home adaptations, or an education missed through ill health.

And, although charities and trusts are supporting more people with less, they are still able to offer grants for disabled adults - though, not as many as those for disabled children.

With adults, the criteria for grants will be varied - it may depend on your disability, your job, which part of the country you live in, your religion or financial situation.

Special Personal Grant Schemes For Disabled People

Special Personal Grant Schemes For Disabled People

Leading a disabled life is burdensome not only for an individual suffering but also for the family. In such a situation, government grants for disabled people are no less than miracle and they are in fact the coupons to happiness in the times of personal struggle.

The disabled person needs extra time to do even simple tasks and requires lots of money in order to lead a normal life. A disabled person has large expenses for different reasons such as expenses incurred on buying of wheelchair, hoists and other alike things. Even travel costs are higher for such people and moreover working hours also get reduced and thus adversely affect their ability to earn and sometimes earnings may get zero posing hardships in their survival.

If any individual under the age of 22 years is suffering from physical or mental disability, then according to federal law, developmental disability is the category of such an individual. To provide help to such individuals, federal government has devised many funding programs to provide support and raise their productivity.

These grants take care of every aspect of disabled person’s life be it diagnosis, treatment, education and even employment. Grants are also available for guardians or caretakers so as to help them in getting required material and equipments needed by the disabled. Grant is also given to the owner of the house in which the disabled person is living so that house can be maintained in such a way to avoid any trouble to the individual.

Almost every American state has framed rules under which provisions are made for the both physically and mentally challenged people. Even the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development through its grants had assisted many non-elderly disabled individuals and families to lease houses.

It is viewed by the department that young disabled people often face difficulties in finding safe, suitable, accessible and affordable houses.
If you are struggling with your life physically and want to achieve your dreams then why not think of grants which have been sanctioned in hundred of million dollars by the government.

You can not only clear your debt and meet the costs of high medical bills but also can achieve your dream of owning a house. But the need is to take the advantage of the grants being offered. One can apply for more than one disability grant at the same time because if you are not able to qualify for particular one, you may be eligible for another one.
